New showreel for 2010 is now up

Hi folks. Well, the new showreel has finally been cut. I’ve uploaded a Standard Def version for now, but I will replace this with a HD version in a few days. Please share this around to anyone you know who might need a 3D or motion graphics freelance artist. I have kept the old showreel up for posterity, so you can compare all of the new work to the older work. It’s almost completely full of new stuff, and that’s pretty amazing.

As always, the showreel page has a breakdown of what clients the jobs were for, what tasks I performed on the clip (it’s almost never a solo task) and what programs I used to achieve the end result.

Up-coming projects

While work goes on, I manage to keep a couple of personal projects on the backburner. One on-going project has been The Process Diary. It’s now 3 years old, and has gathered a substantial audience. I began the blog as a documentation of an animated film. However, it has evolved into a great way to serve the Blender and wider 3D community by providing free tutorials. I especially love the feedback from those who watch. They often give back suggestions which only improve future tutorials. I’ve recently had some time to produce a backlog of work to release. I notify blogs such as Blendernation, who are not only enthusiastic to post a link, but who also feature on the Blender official site.

I’ve finally been able to commence telling my story Pandeia as a web-comic. I have been using Blender to create the more complex items which appear in the panels and pages, and which need to appear often. I’ve then constructed pages using a template from KA-BLAM! in GIMP. I produced five pages as a preview, and sent out a pdf to a select few artists I know for a bit of feedback. So far, the feedback has been extremely constructive. Jason Badower has all but mentored my artwork out of the “Draw the Marvel Way” doldrums it resided in short-term hindsight. I’m actually stunned at what’s coming out of my stylus after a few words of constructive crit. I so owe you a slab, Jase. If only I could post Fosters to LA.

And then of course there’s this little corner of the world in which I try and keep updated with work I’ve done. This week, I’ve been revising the way I put up artwork. I’m also starting to add some new work, such as storyboards I’ve done for Conti Bros Films. These will be available off the Showreel tab. A few new storyboards will begin to appear as I acquire the permission to display them here.
