Here is last year’s showreel, so you can see how much work has been done in the past 18 months (Yes, the 2010 showreel is a little late!)

Paul Caggegi Showreel – 2009

Paul Caggegi Showreel 2009 from Paul Caggegi on Vimeo.

Showreel Breakdown:

  • Heroes Graphics Novel – Background References. Reference panels were requested by Jason Badower – an artist for the Heroes online webcomic. I was supplied with basic floorplans of the sets to model. I modeled the sets, sending renders to Jason for approval. When the set was built to his satisfaction, I placed cameras at chosen points on the set, and rendered out shots. Programs Used: Blender.
  • Telstra T-Life. A combination of liquid simulation and metaballs was used to create the effect of a viscous blue liquid splashing out of a mobile phone screen before congealing into the Telstra logo. Programs Used: Blender, After Effects, Photoshop.
  • Telstra 3DTV Display animation – Mercury Logo. I used Maya 8.5 with a metaball plugin to create a 15 second animation for the NewSight 3DTV displays installed in Telstra’s stores in Melbourne and Sydney. The dual task of using the proprietary plugin for the display and creating a seamless merging of metamesh and solid object was difficult, but successfully realized. Programs Used: Maya 8.5; NewSight Camera Plugin for Maya.
  • Telstra Sponsorship – a Year in Review. I created a sprite to run along a timeline for a Telstra Sponsorship video. I modeled and rigged the character in blender, and animated a simple run cycle. Programs Used: Blender.
  • Optus $59 Cap TVC. The brief was to create a limited-animation style TVC for Optus‘ new phone plan. It was to have 1950s horror-movie look. I created backgrounds in Blender, then composited and animated each scene in After Effects. The final edit was done in Final Cut Studio Pro and delivered in HD format for broadcast. Programs Used: Blender, After Effects, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro.
  • Club Cash – Max Gaming. Several sequences were created for Max Gaming’s “Club Cash” title. I designed, modeled, rigged, and animated a Club character to feature in several scenes. The rig employed a series of custom drivers for the body armature, and facial morph-targets for his expressions. The scenes usually employed several particle and physics effects. Programs Used: Maya, Photoshop, After Effects.
  • Women’s Health TVC Rebrand. Re-branding for a local market is a small, low-budget, but common job. When re-shooting was not an option, the solution was to rotoscope the key shots and create new replacement backgrounds in 3D. I created the background plate, and composited the rotoscoped shots over the plate to create the new shots. Programs Used: Photoshop, Blender, Final Cut Pro.
  • GodSpeed 2009 – Promotional Video. A promotional video for the Godspeed: 2009 Dance Party. I was supplied with footage, logo and brief. I produced several 3D text effects and created the edit from the supplied footage. Programs Used: Blender, After Effects, Final Cut Pro.
  • Taste of Sydney. A short promotional video intended for a web audience. I took existing footage from other Taste events, and combined it with footage and slides from the Sydney event. Programs Use: Photoshop, Final Cut Pro.
  • GoFo – Loreal Example. A short promotion to illustrate the power of mobile media. The task was to model a 3D tub of Tec beach cream and composite it into the footage. Programs Used: Maya.
  • Cosmopolitan – Access All Areas Promo. To promote the “Cosmo Apartment“, I completed a cut of several Cosmo fashion editors in an apartment, talking about the new online segment for Cosmo. I cut, graded, and delivered the final for DVD and several web formats. Programs Used: Final Cut Pro, After Effects.
  • ISKA World Cup Logo Loop. An Animated version of the ISKA World Cup Logo was requested by birthdaypants for a looping DVD and various promotional stings.I was supplied an .eps file, and from that I extruded the logo. I then animated the constituent parts for the final effect. I repeated a second animation for their 2008 event. Programs Used: Blender, GIMP.
  • Character Development. A personal Project – a 13 part, animated series, set in a time after our moon has been rendered a ring around the Earth. I designed, modeled and rigged several characters, created sets and vehicles, mainly using Blender.
  • Mission Australia inhouse videos. The client required an edit, graphical treatment and color-grade for their monthly in-house Employment Services video newsletter. Programs Used: Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Blender.
  • Quickcut/Adstream Merger. I was asked to create some character-logos to personify various media formats and illustrate the merger between two of Australia’s biggest streaming media service providers – Quickcut and Adstream. Programs Used: Blender.
